There is a great little article that NSW Suburban Rugby has placed on it website about the soon to be touring Beecroft Rugby Club Under 85kg team.

To all players, coaches and club officials, after spending quite a long time selecting teams for this Saturday to play nine (9) Grade halves including an Under 85 kg half and three (3) Colt halves we have had to re-do the selections as Hunters Hill does not have 1st Grade players involved in its Under 85 kg team and there was some movement in regard to the timing of the matches.

The changes to the schedule has required Gregg Levett, our Club Selector, to re-shuffle a number of the teams so as to give everyone as best a run as we can but alas, it might not be as perfect as we would like.

As this is only our first trial and players are still turning up for their first training session, it may be difficult to fit all those late comers into a match. For that I apologise, but we will be doing our best in the coming weeks to ensure that all players where possible, are accommodated, and that we can get you a run in your preferred position.

This year’s pre season has been made a bit more difficult due to the time spent with our New Zealand Under 85 kg touring side, but I shall endeavour to explain more about this to you at our gradings day on Sunday 28th March at the Epping Hotel.

The long and short of it is, I beg you all to bear with us and don’t take our gradings as set in concrete. We will be still making selections for the first half dozen games or so, so don’t “spit the dummy” if you don’t make the slot that you have got your heart set on for the first couple of weeks. We will always try to play people where they are best suited.

To this end, everyone that comes to play at Beecroft Rugby Club will hopefully understand, that for it all to work fairly you will be expected to play where selected. By that I mean please don’t ask to play in a particular grade to be with “your mates”, everyone at Beecroft Rugby is your mate.

In recent years we have witnessed very professional clubs, all with access to huge player resources, find 1st division to tough. What we have at achieved at Beecroft in the past few years is nothing short of spectacular and I am confident that this year is going to be one of the truly great years, being talked about for many years to come and will remain a high point for all those involved.

Good luck to all.

Steve Broughton-Rouse.
Club Coach.

As the fly out suggests, Eden Park, Auckland has been confirmed as the venue where Beecroft Rugby Club will verse the NZ Middleweight Barbarians in the second game of our New Zealand tour.

This stadium has recently been refurbished in preparation for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Please click here to check out the Eden Park website.

Also of note is the official invitation sent to us by The Barbarian Rugby Football Club, click here to view.

Please confirm your attendance now, for what shall be a momentous Rugby experience for yourself and for the Beecroft Rugby Club.

In March 2009 Beecroft Rugby Club will embark on a historical tour to New Zealand at the invitation of the New Zealand Barbarians a copy of which is attached. This most prestigious invitation indeed and one that we as a club should feel very pleased and proud to have received. The tour, which will depart for Auckland on Monday 29th March, will include two (2) matches with the first on Wednesday 31st March and the second on Saturday 3rd April.

The game of “Under 85 kg” or as it is called in New Zealand “Middleweight’ has only been played in Australia for approximately four years but has a far longer history in New Zealand and I have attached for you a history of the Under 85 kg concept. A large number of players have indicated their willingness to participate in the tour and to that end two (2) training sessions were recently undertaken with those players.

At this stage a touring team squad of twenty-four (24) players has been selected to tour and should the need arise that squad can be enlarged. Unfortunately, a number of the players who wished to participate in the squad were outside the required weight limit for the tour and could not be considered. Details of the squad are as per the attached list.
I wish to thank all those players who have “put their hand up” to be included in the tour and if unfortunately you have not made the squad I ask that you consider joining the touring party as a supporter.

Whether a player or supporter the club needs to know whether or not you wish to join the tour as there is a massive about of planning to be undertaken in preparation for the tour and to that end I ask that you either contact me on 0418 438882 or register for the tour on the front of the website, “Book Now N.Z. Tour” icon as soon as possible.

Beecroft Rugby Club is preparing for revenge, with their recent match against the New Zealand Barbarians ending in a narrow loss.

Being a suburban football team playing in the NSW Suburban Rugby division, Beecroft Rugby Club was facing a David vs Goliath situation, with the Barbarians playing as the elite national team of New Zealand.

With the match being the first of the year with minimal pre-season training, the Crofties stared down their opponents during the customary haka, leading the match until the dying minutes.

BEECROFT Rugby Club were defeated by New Zealand Barbarians in a cliffhanger for the inaugural Under 85s Trans-Tasman Challenge.

The large crowd at Headon Park were treated to a display of Rugby at its best.

Beecroft, a suburban rugby newcomer, were expected to provide the New Zealand team with little more than a canter in the park.
